Teacher(s) Spotlight: Lynn Neill & Jessica Adams

Lynn & Jessica are the dynamic Music & Library duo at Central Elementary School.  Lynn has been teaching music in Yukon for five years and Jessica has 13 year experience at the elementary level. They both believe in the power of music as a tool for educating children.  The grant they received this year was titled ""Music Makes Mind More" (say that ten times fast). These women fully believe in the power of the arts and the impact of arts integration in all subjects. The Cantata Learning Books span a wide variety of topics and reinforce subject matter through song. The books are accessible through the school library and online, giving students, teachers, and parents acess to these resources everywhere they go.

"As a former music teacher, I believe in the power of music. Music adds an element to help make new knowledge "stick." We sing quite a bit in our library. Books set to music just seemed perfect for our kids, and so far they love all of our new books!

Jessica Adams, Librarian

 MILLER$

Wow! A big THANKS to everyone who donated to our Miller$ to the Match campaign. We raised over $11,000 for everyday supplies for our teachers. Teachers have been asked for their input and supplies will be delivered to each school soon!

Teacher Grants

Donations to the YPSFE go into an endowment fund. The interest earned from this investment will provide funding for the grants. The Grants-to-Teachers program allows teachers to submit grant proposals once a year. The committee, comprised of Foundation members, consults with the school administrators to insure the programs fit within district priorities. The grants are awarded throughout the school system. This is an exciting way to develop new and innovative approaches to teaching or advancing programs which stimulate thinking and expand the curriculum.

"Without the generosity of the Yukon Public Schools Foundation, my students couldn't be nearly as successful in the Theatre Arts classroom.  The grants I have received help me make theatre come to life."
